Many high school students use
what they have learned from Dr. King’s teachings and express their love for and
commitment to humanity by providing community service in Santa Fe. The Santa Fe Branch of the National
Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the New Mexico
Martin Luther King. Jr. State Commission, and Santa Fe Public Schools are
seeking nominations of high school students who are performing exemplary
community service. We urge everyone to
nominate any 11th or 12th grade student who is actively
volunteering and performing community service, for the 2018 Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Award. Winners will receive a monetary award, a certificate, a commemorative gift, one year
membership in the Santa Fe Branch NAACP, and information about Rev. Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr. Community members,
counselors, principals, teachers, and all who work with youth in any capacity are encouraged to nominate
students from all ability,
cultural, ethnic, gender, and orientation backgrounds.
The theme for this year’s commemoration is “KING: HIS VOICE, HIS TEACHINGS, HIS
LOVE FOR HUMANITY”. Youth who are leaders today will
continue leading in our future. The Santa Fe Branch seeks to acknowledge those
young leaders for their contributions uplifting our community. These youth exemplify
what it takes for global citizenry, as they express their own love for
humanity. Student nominees must:
- Be enrolled in a Santa
Fe public high school, charter school, or Santa Fe Indian School
- Be in grades 11-12
- Hold at least a 2.5
GPA
- Be actively providing
community service
